Hardly surprisingly that the Labour’s years in power have made the UK more liberal in social attitudes but less socialist economically.
We’ve not preached the virtues of greater equality and efficient state regulation. We’ve preached the virtues of the market, rewarding initiatives and attracting talent and business on a world market.
The Conservatives couldn’t have done it better
The defence overspend £6 billion, £36 billion or £80 billion: take your pick. It won’t be dealt with until a defence review after the election.
But it does bring us to a fundamental gaffe for Labour.
You can’t build a fairer society and cure social problems by public spending AND strut the world stage as a semi-great power even if it’s only Robin to America’s Batman.
It’s time to put our people first and stop chucking money we haven’t got at Iraq and Afghanistan which has nothing to do with us and in which our people have no interest.
Let the Tories strut and cut. It’s not our job.
